For National Day of Civic Hacking, Smart Chicago will be hosting Civic Tech Leader Training to help leverage the power of technology to organize in their neighborhoods. David McDowell from Chicago's Soutwest Organizing Project will teach an introduction to community organizing.

FOIA Training

Matt Topic from the Better Government Association will conduct training on how to send a Freedom of Information Act Request.

Data Portal Training

Josh Kalov of Kalov Strategies will teach about how to use the Cook County and other data portals to get #opendata used in creating civic apps.

Microsoft Excel Training

Adam Hecktman, Director of Civic Technology for Microsoft's Chicago Office, will teach how to use excel to analyze open data.

Civic Engagement Toolkit

Christopher Whitaker will go over simple lightweight like Textizen, Wufoo, and Wordpress to help engage residents in your area.

Social Media Training

Smart Chicago's Kyla Williams will a class on social media basics to help your organization engage with residents.

How to run a hack night project

Claire Micklen from Mybuildingdoesntrecyle.com will cap off our training by talking about the ins and outs of running a hack hack project.
